Welcome to the not-for-profit Melbourne Mining Club, founded in 2001, and based in the home of the Australian resource industry, Melbourne, the capital of the state of Victoria. Our founding patron, the late Sir Arvi Parbo AC, former executive chairman of WMC and former chairman of BHP, watched over the emergence of the Melbourne Mining Club as one of the world’s leading organisations for the promotion of the resource sector. Sir Arvi’s legacy is continued today by our co-patrons Leigh Clifford AO and Hugh Morgan AC, and it is overseen by a volunteer-based Steering Committee. Our commitment to the future of the resource industry is underpinned by our JV partners in the Minerals Council of Australia and the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), and our Principal Partners in AMC Consultants and White & Case.
You can become a member of the Melbourne Mining Club by filling in the application form online or by contacting our secretariat. Membership is free and MMC members receive email notification of upcoming events including our bi-monthly luncheons, the Cutting Edge and our overseas events. Members may then register for these top quality events on a first come, first served basis.
Our bi-monthly luncheon and networking events are generally held at the historic Melbourne Town Hall, a venue built by the proceeds of the Victorian gold boom in the mid 1800s. This wonderful and historic venue can hold up to 700 guests. Speakers include the chairmen and chief executives of the biggest resource companies in the world. The most important names from the resource services sector have also delivered addresses to our members and to the leading media organisations in Australia. The Melbourne Mining Club also invites speakers from the top levels of Government to discuss policy at these events. The club’s commitment is to provide a forum to discuss the most important topics facing the global resources industry and our aim is to hear from those at the very centre of these developments. The Cutting Edge event series is one our most popular events. Attendance is free but registration is essential. The Melbourne Mining Club is financially sound and is proud to allocate surplus funds raised from our functions to the education foundations of both the Minerals Council of Australia (Victoria) and the Melbourne branch of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. More than $865,000 has been donated to these foundations since our inception. The Melbourne Mining Club is committed to a strong future for the Australian Resources industry.
