About
About the Melbourne Mining Club
The Melbourne Mining Club, founded in 2001, is a not-for-profit JV between the AusIMM and the Minerals Council of Australia.
MMC promotes the resources sector in the global mining capital of Melbourne and offers unparalleled networking opportunities with senior leaders in global mining and mining service companies.
The MMC provides a forum to discuss the most important topics facing the global resources industry and our aim is to hear from those at the very centre of these developments. Speakers, at our six luncheon events, include the chairs and chief executives of the biggest resource companies in the world. The most important names from the resource services sector have also delivered addresses at our lunches and to the leading media organisations in Australia. The Melbourne Mining Club also invites speakers from the top levels of Government to discuss policy at these events.
The Melbourne Mining Club also organises five popular Cutting Edge Series events each year in Melbourne for the small-medium cap companies. Attendance is free but registration is essential to take part in these popular presentations followed by networking opportunities.
MMC is proud to sponsor educational excellence in mining related disciplines and supports university students to consider a career in the resources sector with a student table at every luncheon. The Melbourne Mining Club allocates surplus funds raised from our functions to the education foundations of JV partners MCA Victoria and to the Melbourne branch of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. More than $940,000 has been donated to these foundations since the MMC’s inception.
MMC’s founding patron, the late Sir Arvi Parbo AC, former executive chairman of WMC and former chairman of BHP, watched over the emergence of the Melbourne Mining Club as one of the world’s leading organisations for the promotion of the resource sector. Sir Arvi’s legacy is continued today by our co-patrons Leigh Clifford AC and Hugh Morgan AC, and it is overseen by a volunteer-based Steering Committee.
The Melbourne Mining Club is committed to a strong future for the Australian resources industry.
